Short Biography

I am a faculty member at Deakin university and have published more than 100 articles in refereed journals and conferences as well as a number of technical reports. I am on the editorial board of several international journals and edited several international journals and conference proceedings. I have also been a member of the organizing committee for over 60 international conferences and workshops serving in various capacity including best paper award chair, general co-chair, publication chair, vice-chair and program committee. I am a frequent reviewer for international research Journals, Book series (e.g., Springer), Grants (e.g., Australian Research Council) and external examiner of PhD and Masters degree (e.g., Leeds University, Monash University, RMIT University, etc.).

Research Interest

I am actively involved in funded research  in building secure, efficient and reliable infrastructures for large-scale distributed systems. Towards this vision, I am working in several areas including:

·    Pervasive and Networked Systems (Mobile, Wireless Network, Sensor Networks, Grid, Cluster, and P2P)

·    E-Science and E-Business Technologies and Applications

·    Performance Analysis and Evaluation

Prospective PhD and Masters students as well as visiting researchers are welcome to join my research group.  I look forward to working with you (or extend) these areas so e-mail me or drop by my office if you would like to join my research group.

Research Grants

·         Chief Investigators: R Buyya and J Abawajy,

Title: InterGrid: Peering Architecture and Policies for Internetworking Disparate Grids,

Type: ARC Discovery Grant

Period: 2008 - 2010

Amount: $216,000.00

Project Summary: Grid enables the creation of Cyber-infrastructure for e Research applications. It is recognised as one of  the top five emerging technologies that will have a major impact on the quality of science and society over the next 20 years. Several nations around the world including Australia have developed their own national Grids based on the notion of virtual organisations. These dispersed Grid initiatives have resulted in Grid islands without any support for peering arrangements between them. This limitation will not allow us to realise full potential of the Grid computing paradigm. This InterGrid project aims to revolutionise Grid computing by developing new technologies for peering of Grids.

Title: The Utility Grid Project: Autonomic and Utility-oriented Global Grids for Powering Emerging E-Research Applications,

Type: International Science Linkages, Department of Education, Science & Training, Australia.

Period: 2006 - 2008

Amount: $592,875

Project Summary: The aims of this project are to develop innovative design, manufacturing and defect criticality assessment techniques for advanced composite structures, in particular aircraft joints and pressure vessel in relation to the development and validation of frontier structural health monitoring (SHM) technology for monitoring and defining maintenance requirements of these composite structures. This project addresses key issues in the innovative design and through-life integrity of composite structures for the aerospace and transportation markets allowing Australian organisations to participate in several significant European Union 6th Framework Programme (EU FP6) projects that are generating fundamental changes in these industries. Integral to achieving these goals is an improved capability to design innovative composite structures concurrent with the development of validated SHM systems. Development of these technologies will allow the production of more efficient composite structures for the future needs of the aerospace and transport industries, resulting in improved safety, reduced operational costs and reduced environmental impact.
